Gum GraftGum graft or Periodontal Plastic Surgery is a surgical procedure intending to prevent further gum recession, avoid tooth loss, tooth decay, as well as gum infection and teeth sensitivity. The periodontist takes some soft tissue from the inside the mouth (usually from the palate) and graft it into the receded gum area. Grafting surgeries, including gum graft, require more time to recover. Because gum grafting is painful, the periodontist will prescribe painkillers and a restricted diet made of soft and liquid foods. In order to prevent infection, special mouth rinses will be recommended. Regular visits to the oral surgeon's office, during few years after the procedure are necessary, to ensure that the graft is healing properly. |
