Causes

Generally the cause of pyorrhea is poor oral hygiene. Bacterial growth and build up of plaque on the teeth lead to gum inflammation and causes periodontitis. Left untreated, this gum disease progress to pyorrhea.
The gums become infected and recede from the teeth. The bone and the structures supporting the teeth are destroyed. Tooth loss is the next step.

Treatment

Regular brushing and flossing are capital to prevent and cure pyorrhea. Use a soft toothbrush and try to remove all the plaque and food particles accumulated between the teeth and under the gum line.
Visit your dentist once a year for a check-up and a professional cleaning.

This gum disorder is difficult to treat. The dentist has to clean all the bacterial deposits from the crown and teeth root. An antibiotic treatment will be prescribed.
The result of this procedure will consist in the reduction and control of the gingiva inflammation. Because periodontal pockets can not be eliminated, in order to prevent the spreading of the infection, the dentist recommends a surgical intervention in which the pockets depth reduction will be performed.
