Causes of gum recession

Gingiva recession is a symptom of periodontitis. Receding gum line is generally caused by improper oral hygiene habits. Plaque and tartar accumulation on teeth surfaces and under the gum line produces gum inflammation and gums start to recede.
Left untreated it may progress to advanced stages of periodontitis or to pyorrhea and cause tooth loss.

Receding gums treatment

Keeping your natural teeth is the best option. Nothing, can really replace your natural tooth!
Proper oral care is vital to prevent gum recession.
Regular cleanings done by a dentist, will help reduce inflammation by removing the plaque and tartar from the teeth surface and gum line.
However, some people do not experience a big improvement in their gum health with only these changes.

In advanced stage of gum recession, dentists recommend a gum surgery, called gum graft . This gum reconstruction procedure is expensive and sometimes, requires a long recovery. It consists in tissue grafting into the affected gum surface.
